Rover SD1 Makes Pole in First Event
Posted on Thursday 16th April 2015
The debut of the Gp2 Rover SD1 finally happened at the first round of the Heritage Touring Cup at Vallelunga at the weekend. The car driven by Tim Summers and Nigel Greensall performed incredibly well considering its complete lack of track time prior to it leaving the BGMsport workshop.
The car was tested briefly by Ian Gwynne on Monday last week the same day it left BGMsport to be transported to the circuit. After a few minor adjustments, the car was fast straight away in the practice session and after some further tweaks, went into qualifying and snatched pole by a very small margin, a real bonus for the team and totally unexpected.
Tim drove a superb race on Sunday morning, leading from pole for a majority of his half hour stint until sadly something let go in the transmission and the car had to be retired, but Tim and the team had a great race weekend, the car has shown huge promise and we look forward to the next race at Spa in May.
